Elementary and Secondary Education Act, Public Law 107-110, the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 (NCLB)

The U.S. Department of Education provides further explanation of the parental involvement provisions of NCLB, Title I, Section 1118, in Parental Involvement: Title I, Part A—Non-Regulatory Guidance. April 23, 2004. U.S. Department of Education.

A Toolkit for Teachers: No Child Left Behind, (updated 2004), is a 62-page booklet that gives an overview of NCLB, along with answers to questions frequently asked by teacher.

The Commission on No Child Left Behind, co-chaired by Tommy Thompson, Secretary of HHS and Governor Roy E. Barnes, conducted public hearings, roundtables and school visits, conversations and meetings in a research effort to understand how NCLB is affecting schools and communities. The Commission’s book, Beyond NCLB: Fulfilling the Promise to our Nation’s Children (March 2007) describes their findings and gives recommendations.

Federal Resources or Educational Excellence (FREE) contains more than 1600 federal teaching and learning resources organized by subject: Art and Music, Health, History & Sic Studies, Language Arts, Math Science and others. Resources include learning units, practice sheets, and myriad other teaching aids for students pre-elementary through high school. All FREE.

Regional Educational Laboratory Program (REL) , a program of the U.S. Dept. of Education’s Institute of Educational Sciences consists of a network of ten laboratories that serve the educational needs of a designated region by providing access to high quality scientifically valid education research through applied research and development projects, studies, and other related technical assistance activities.

Comprehensive Centers Network (CC) consists of 16 Comprehensive Centers located across the country. The US Dept. of Eduction established the CC Network to provide technical assistance focuses on the No Child Left Behind Act. The New England Region Comprehensive Center http://www.necomprehensivecenter.org/ serves Massachusetts. Five of the Centers provide expert assistance on these areas:
